TechFlow news, October 20 — According to Crypto Briefing, a retired individual from North Carolina, Brandon LaRoque, had his Ellipal hardware wallet hacked on October 12, losing 1.2 million XRP worth over $3 million.
The attacker first conducted two test transactions of 10 XRP each, then transferred approximately 1.29 million XRP to a newly created wallet and quickly dispersed the funds across around 30 different wallets. Blockchain analyst ZachXBT discovered that the stolen funds were bridged via Bridgers through over 120 XRP-to-Tron cross-chain transactions, ultimately laundered through OTC channels linked to Huione, an illegal marketplace in Southeast Asia. The victim stated this represented all his retirement savings accumulated over eight years.
