TechFlow news, October 14 — According to Cointelegraph, the South Asian nation of Bhutan is migrating its self-sovereign identity system from Polygon to Ethereum, enabling nearly 800,000 residents to verify their identities and access government services.
The integration with Ethereum has already been completed, and the migration of all resident credentials is expected to finish by the first quarter of 2026. Ethereum Foundation President Aya Miyaguchi attended the launch event alongside Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuk.
Miyaguchi stated in a Monday tweet that this marks the world's first national-level integration of an Ethereum-based identity system. Prior to this, Bhutan had operated its national identity system on Polygon starting August 2024, and earlier used Hyperledger Indy.
