TechFlow news, October 12 — According to on-chain analyst Eye (@eyeonchains), a HyperLiquid whale that holds over 100,000 BTC and has sold more than $4.23 billion worth of BTC to swap into ETH appears to be linked to Garrett Jin, a former executive at an exchange. In August and September this year, the whale used a series of wallets to sell over 35,000 BTC for ETH. Investigation revealed that the address deploying his staked ETH contract received funding from a wallet whose initial funds originated from “ereignis.eth”. This domain is also associated with another ENS domain, “garrettjin.eth”, which links to X user @GarrettBullish.
Further analysis indicates that Garrett Jin graduated from Boston University in 2008 with a degree in economics, interned at China Construction Bank, founded Da Yo Trading (HK) in 2012, then joined an exchange as operations director before serving as CEO of BitForex from 2017 to 2020. The exchange became embroiled in scandal over alleged transaction volume manipulation. In March this year, Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission warned the public about BitForex’s suspected involvement in virtual asset-related fraud.
As of now, Garrett Jin reportedly still holds 46,295 BTC across multiple wallet addresses, valued at $5.19 billion.
