TechFlow news, October 10 — According to Jinti Data citing CNBC, after a series of rigorous interviews, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent has narrowed the list of Federal Reserve chair candidates from 11 to five. The final nominee may be put forward by January next year, though they might not necessarily assume the chairmanship.
According to senior Treasury officials, the remaining candidates include two current Fed officials—Vice Chair for Supervision Bowman and Governor Waller—as well as National Economic Council Director Hassett, former Fed Governor Warsh, and BlackRock Chief Investment Officer Rick Rieder. The Treasury plans to conduct another round of interviews with all five candidates over the coming weeks and months. The interviews will be led by Bessent and include two senior Treasury officials and two senior White House officials.
Since Bessent will focus on the World Bank/IMF meetings in Washington next week, followed by a long overseas trip to Asia with the president, officials said the interview process may not conclude until after Thanksgiving. Bessent then intends to present Trump with a shorter list, from which he will make the final decision. However, this person would likely first be nominated as a Fed governor, before being nominated for Fed chair.
