TechFlow, October 10 — According to the New York Times, a U.S. government source said that despite the federal government shutdown, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is still preparing to release September's CPI data, though the exact timing remains unclear and it will almost certainly not be on the originally scheduled date of October 15. The agency had halted all operations during the funding interruption, causing it to miss the release of last week’s nonfarm payrolls report as planned. Government sources indicated that the bureau has begun recalling some staff to resume work on compiling the reports. The decision to release the data appears linked to the annual cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security benefits, which is based on inflation figures from the third quarter. A delay in releasing September's price data could therefore postpone the announcement of this adjustment. Other foreign media reports indicate the Bureau of Labor Statistics plans to release September’s CPI data before the end of the month. (Jinshi)
