TechFlow, October 2 — Roger Wattenhofer, research lead at Anza and professor at ETH Zurich, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Future of Blockchain Infrastructure" today at the Global On-chain Asset Summit hosted by HashKey Group.
"We should stop calling blockchain Web3," he said. "Blockchain is a trust system, not just a network system." He noted that the fundamental logic of blockchain is simplicity, speed, scalability, and trust-centricity, and that future infrastructure must find a new balance among bandwidth, latency, and security—this will determine whether decentralized applications can achieve mass adoption. He also emphasized that designing validator incentive mechanisms to prevent speculation and ensure timely voting and decentralization will be a long-term challenge for the industry.
