TechFlow, Sept 30 — According to Jinshi Data, OpenAI will allow ChatGPT users to shop directly through its popular AI chatbot without leaving the platform. The company said on Monday that users in the United States will be able to purchase items from local sellers on the e-commerce platform Etsy and select Shopify merchants directly within ChatGPT.
The service, called "Instant Checkout," currently supports the purchase of single items only. OpenAI also released an open-source technical standard named the "Agentic Commerce Protocol," enabling merchants to integrate their products with ChatGPT for direct sales within the chatbot.
The company hopes this move will attract more merchants to the ChatGPT platform. However, OpenAI noted that Amazon and Walmart, two major U.S. digital retailers, are not currently adopting the protocol.
