BOB and Anchorage Digital announce partnership to accelerate institutional investor access to Bitcoin DeFi
BOB has entered into a strategic partnership with Anchorage Digital to accelerate institutional investors' access to the Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem by providing institutional-grade security infrastructure, unlocking Bitcoin's true utility as the world's most important digital asset.
On November 10, BOB announced a partnership with Anchorage Digital, a leading institutional-grade cryptocurrency platform, to open its Bitcoin DeFi portal to institutional investors.
BOB will select Anchorage Digital as its preferred custodian to accelerate its mission of bringing native Bitcoin DeFi to institutions through secure infrastructure. This move comes just weeks after BOB's integration with LayerZero, which unlocked native BTC access across 11 major public chains including Ethereum, Avalanche, Base, and BNB Chain.
Opening access to institutions marks a significant step for BOB in fulfilling its mission to unlock the true utility of Bitcoin—the world’s most important digital asset. This collaboration will provide institutional investors with a secure entry point and accelerate the growth of Bitcoin DeFi by leveraging Anchorage Digital’s institutional-grade custody infrastructure.
Over the past 18 months, the total value locked (TVL) in genuine Bitcoin DeFi has surged from $200 million to over $8 billion, yet this still represents only 0.3% of Bitcoin’s market cap, highlighting the immense growth potential of the Bitcoin DeFi market. At the same time, institutional interest in Bitcoin is shifting from passive yield-generating infrastructure to active participation in Bitcoin DeFi activities. To meet this demand, BOB will offer institutions a sufficiently secure channel to access its Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem, which has a TVL exceeding $250 million—currently the safest and most convenient way to earn Bitcoin yields.
Anchorage Digital will offer BOB custody support to its institutional clients through the following channels:
- Anchorage Digital Bank NA – the only federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S.;
- Anchorage Digital Singapore – a Major Payment Institution licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS);
- Porto by Anchorage Digital – an institutional-grade self-custody wallet built on Anchorage Digital’s security technology.
Alexei Zamyatin, co-founder of BOB, commented on the partnership: “We’re excited to partner with Anchorage Digital to provide leading institutions with a trusted platform to access BOB. Our vision is to place Bitcoin at the heart of DeFi, offering both institutional and retail investors the safest path to earn BTC yields. BOB’s hybrid blockchain architecture combines the strengths of Bitcoin and Ethereum. This means every step of participating in Bitcoin DeFi on BOB—from depositing native BTC, deploying DeFi applications on BOB, to bridging to other smart contract chains—is secured by billions of dollars worth of staked Bitcoin. This is exactly the level of security top-tier institutions require when pursuing Bitcoin yields. Anchorage Digital creates a crucial gateway for institutions to enter BOB’s $250 million TVL DeFi ecosystem, providing reliable asset backing and serving as a trusted partner.”
Nathan McCauley, CEO of Anchorage Digital, said: “We are at the beginning of a Bitcoin DeFi revolution, and innovators like BOB are expanding Bitcoin’s role beyond just a store of value. As smart contract capabilities mature, they combine Bitcoin’s security with new utility, unlocking novel applications and opening the door for institutions and holders to participate meaningfully. We’re proud to provide full-stack solutions to teams like BOB, empowering them to launch and scale their projects.”
This partnership with Anchorage Digital continues a series of major milestones for BOB, including the launch of its first hybrid ZK rollup, securing $21 million in funding from top-tier investors, and launching native Bitcoin decentralized finance applications on testnet in collaboration with Lombard, Amber Digital, and RockawayX via its BitVM bridge. Additionally, BOB recently integrated LayerZero, enabling one-click access to native Bitcoin across 11 chains.
Institutional users can access BOB through Anchorage Digital’s custody platform and its self-custody wallet Porto, benefiting from industry-leading fused security mechanisms (quorum-based approval), hardware security module (HSM) infrastructure, advanced biometrics, and behavioral analytics.
