BOB announces integration of Chainlink CCIP protocol as the canonical cross-chain infrastructure for its native assets
BOB positions Bitcoin as the cornerstone of DeFi, aiming to unlock trillions of dollars in liquidity for BTCFi.

On January 23, the hybrid L2 network BOB announced the integration of Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the canonical cross-chain infrastructure for its native assets, aiming to drive innovation in BTC DeFi and unlock trillions of dollars in liquidity.
BOB has consistently focused on providing battle-tested infrastructure for ecosystem developers to enhance the functionality and reach of its Hybrid L2 network. To fulfill this commitment, BOB will integrate Chainlink CCIP, which supports connecting Bitcoin and Ethereum native networks using BOB’s trust-minimized BitVM bridge, helping BOB achieve its mission of making Bitcoin a pillar of DeFi.
Since its inception, Chainlink has built one of the largest ecosystems in the blockchain industry. CCIP is a cross-chain messaging protocol developed by Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network, designed to support various cross-chain dApps, token bridges, and programmable token bridges. It empowers smart contract developers with the ability to transfer data and tokens across blockchain networks in a trust-minimized manner.
By integrating with the Chainlink community and ecosystem, BOB developers will be able to build feature-rich cross-chain applications on CCIP, maximizing BTCFi adoption and growth. This integration strengthens BOB’s position as a foundational Hybrid L2 platform for Bitcoin DeFi and the premier use case for staking liquid staking tokens (LSTs) backed by Bitcoin liquidity.
"BOB plays a critical role in advancing the BTCFi ecosystem, providing underlying infrastructure support for the continued scalability of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Chainlink CCIP is ideally suited to provide BOB developers with the tools they need to build highly secure and feature-rich cross-chain applications. We’re excited to see how developers will leverage the Chainlink protocol standard to create innovative applications that users love." — Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs.

Unlocking Secure Cross-Chain Interoperability with CCIP
To enhance cross-chain interoperability within the BOB ecosystem, a highly secure and reliable interoperability solution was required. BOB chose to integrate Chainlink CCIP because it complements BOB’s existing BitVM bridge cross-chain pathway while adding numerous innovative features and improved user experiences, including:
-
Proven Security: The consensus and interoperability layers of CCIP are powered by Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network, which has an outstanding track record securing tens of billions of dollars in assets and enabling over $18 trillion in on-chain transaction value.
-
Secure Token Transfers: CCIP introduces the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard, CCT, which represents cross-chain native tokens protected by CCIP. CCT enables self-service deployment, full developer control and ownership, enhanced programmability, and zero-slippage transfers—all backed by CCIP’s industry-leading defense-in-depth security model. Notably, CCT is token logic agnostic, meaning token developers can deploy pre-audited token pool contracts to convert any ERC-20 compatible token into a CCT, or deploy custom token pool contracts for tailored use cases. CCT does not require token developers to inherit any CCIP-specific code into their token smart contracts. Additionally, CCT benefits from advanced security features within its CCIP token pool, such as configurable rate limiting and reliability mechanisms (e.g., smart execution), ensuring secure and reliable transaction execution on the destination chain regardless of network congestion.
-
Arbitrary Message Passing: CCIP allows developers to create cross-chain native applications by transferring arbitrarily encoded byte data between smart contracts on different blockchains. Cross-chain messaging supports a wide range of use cases, from cross-chain NFT transfers to cross-chain lending.
-
Programmable Token Transfers: CCIP supports cross-chain value transfer via CCT while also delivering data instructions that tell the receiving smart contract how to handle the tokens upon arrival at the destination chain. With programmable token transfers, CCIP can condense complex sequences involving multiple users, blockchains, and assets into a single atomic cross-chain instruction.
-
Scalable and Future-Proof: CCIP is designed to provide developers with a future-proof solution that can continue evolving—supporting integration with new blockchain networks, permissionless onboarding of additional tokens without sacrificing full ownership of token contracts, and incorporation of new, proven security methodologies.
"BOB is executing on our vision for a hybrid L2 as planned. At the end of 2024, we announced integration with Babylon’s Bitcoin Security Network (BSN), bringing Bitcoin finality into the hybrid L2 model; we also successfully tested the first BitVM-powered Bitcoin bridge with Fiamma, accelerating the realization of the hybrid L2 model. Now, integrating Chainlink CCIP marks another major step toward our ultimate goal. This integration not only expands BOB’s technical capabilities but also connects us deeply with Chainlink’s extensive ecosystem, significantly advancing the development of Bitcoin DeFi," said Alexei Zamyatin, co-founder of BOB.
About Chainlink
Chainlink is the standard for on-chain finance, verifiable data, and cross-chain interoperability. Chainlink is unifying global market liquidity and has enabled over $18 trillion in transaction value within the blockchain economy. Major financial market infrastructures and institutions—including Swift, Fidelity International, and ANZ Bank—alongside top DeFi protocols like Aave, GMX, and Lido, rely on Chainlink to power next-generation applications for banking, asset management, and other key sectors. About BOB
BOB (Build on Bitcoin) is a hybrid Layer-2 network that combines the strengths of Bitcoin and Ethereum, positioning itself as the "home of BTC DeFi." Its unique Hybrid L2 model integrates the advantages of both ecosystems—Bitcoin’s security and dormant BTC capital, along with Ethereum’s DeFi innovation and versatility. By positioning BTC as the foundation of a new decentralized financial system, BOB unlocks novel use cases and trillions of dollars in BTC liquidity. BOB leverages the BitVM protocol to fully inherit Bitcoin network security and establishes trust-minimized bridges between BOB, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other L1 networks. As a result, the Hybrid L2 does not rely on third-party cross-chain bridges for interoperability, enabling seamless concentration of liquidity around the Bitcoin network rather than fragmenting it across chains.
BOB is supported by leading investment firms including Castle Island Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Ledger Cathay Ventures, and IOSG.
