Aptos Labs is set to acquire HashPalette, marking a strategic expansion into the Japanese market
This acquisition is a key component of Aptos Labs' expansion in the Asian market and will bring the high-performance Aptos blockchain to one of the world's most innovative digital economies.

October 3, 2024 – Aptos Labs has announced an agreement to acquire HashPalette Inc., a subsidiary of HashPort Inc. and the developer of the Palette blockchain. Under the agreement, HashPort will migrate the Palette Chain and HashPalette's applications to the Aptos network, including the EXPO2025 digital wallet for the Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo in 2025. This acquisition is a key component of Aptos Labs’ expansion into the Asian market, bringing the high-performance Aptos blockchain to one of the world’s most innovative digital economies. It should be noted that the transaction has not yet been finalized and remains in the final approval stage.
Why Japan?
The acquisition of HashPalette by Aptos Labs is a strategic move enabling entry into Japan’s blockchain market. HashPalette has established strong relationships with major Japanese corporations, including KDDI, making this acquisition a gateway to some of Japan’s most influential companies. Leveraging these connections alongside the robust technology of the Aptos network, Aptos Labs can drive Web3 adoption in Japan across entertainment, gaming, and digital assets.
The agreement also demonstrates Aptos Labs’ commitment to the Japanese market, positioning the company to deliver scalable, secure, and user-friendly blockchain technology tailored to Japan’s unique needs. As one of the fastest-growing Layer 1 blockchains, with over $550 million in total value locked (TVL), Aptos has proven its growing global appeal.
"Aptos Labs places great importance on the Japanese market," said Mo Shaikh, founder and CEO of Aptos Labs. "The agreement to acquire HashPalette and migrate HashPort’s Palette Chain to Aptos marks a crucial first step in empowering Japanese businesses and developers with cutting-edge blockchain technology."
Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo 2025
Aptos will serve as the exclusive blockchain partner for the EXPO2025 digital wallet at the Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo. As one of the largest and most prestigious international expositions, the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 is expected to attract more than 28 million visitors between April and October 2025.
This collaboration will allow expo attendees to interact with NFTs, digital assets, and decentralized applications via the Aptos-powered EXPO2025 digital wallet. Use cases may include pavilion reservations, ticketing, and user engagement through loyalty programs and digital collectibles. The partnership will showcase Aptos Labs’ ability to deliver secure, scalable, and user-friendly blockchain solutions on a global scale.
Commitment to Japanese Enterprises and the Ecosystem
In addition to the acquisition, Aptos Labs has formed a strategic partnership with HashPort, a leading Japanese blockchain consulting and solutions provider. This collaboration will enable HashPort to continue building blockchain solutions for its enterprise clients using Aptos network infrastructure, further accelerating mass Web3 adoption in Japan.
Aptos Labs will support local developers, NFT creators, and enterprises in cultivating a strong and organic Japanese Web3 community. The company also plans to collaborate with Japanese universities, research institutions, and blockchain startups, contributing to a vibrant ecosystem for Web3 innovators.
Migration of the Palette Chain
HashPalette developed one of Japan’s most prominent blockchain ecosystems, focusing on entertainment, gaming, anime, and digital assets. By migrating the Palette Chain to the Aptos network, users and developers will gain access to superior scalability, security, and development tools, fueling a new wave of Web3 innovation in Japan.
Holders of PLT, the governance token of the Palette Chain, are expected to begin converting their PLT tokens into APT—the native token of Aptos—by the end of November. Token holders will be able to exchange PLT through participating Japanese crypto asset service providers, with discussions currently ongoing. To ensure a smooth transition, exchanged APT tokens will be subject to a one-year lock-up period, during which no sales or transfers will be permitted. Further details regarding the token swap process and integration plans will be announced closer to the swap date, contingent upon the successful completion of the acquisition.
