TechFlow, August 22 — According to The Block, Interpol announced on Friday that its coordinated "Operation Serengeti 2.0" has successfully arrested 1,209 suspected cybercriminals who collectively attacked nearly 88,000 victims.
Launched in June this year, the operation has so far recovered $97.4 million in funds and dismantled 11,432 malicious infrastructures. In Zambia, authorities disrupted a large-scale online investment fraud scheme that used advertising campaigns promising high returns to lure approximately 65,000 victims into investing in cryptocurrency, with estimated losses reaching up to $300 million.
In Angola, investigators dismantled 25 cryptocurrency mining centers, arrested 60 Chinese nationals involved in illegally validating blockchain transactions, and seized mining and IT equipment worth over $37 million.
The operation involved law enforcement from 18 African countries and the United Kingdom.
