TechFlow, July 18 — According to Cointelegraph, prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York are expected to conclude their case presentation against Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm by July 25. Storm faces multiple charges including money laundering, operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, and violating U.S. sanctions, which could lead to several years in prison if convicted on all counts.
The prosecution has called multiple witnesses, including FBI agents and forensic accountants. Storm's defense team plans to argue the necessity of cryptocurrency privacy protections and may cite high-profile cases of cryptocurrency users being kidnapped as evidence.
Storm co-founded the cryptocurrency mixing service Tornado Cash in 2019 alongside Alexey Pertsev and Roman Semenov. The trial is expected to last three to four weeks.
