TechFlow news, on June 6, according to Jinshi Data, Japan and the United States have begun a new round of trade talks. Media reports indicate that the Japanese delegation is attempting to secure U.S. tariff exemptions by pledging to produce more automobiles in the United States and strengthen cooperation in rare earths. On Thursday, Japanese trade negotiator Akizawa Ryo held talks in Washington with U.S. Commerce Secretary Lutnick, exchanging views on specific issues such as non-tariff barriers, expanded trade, and economic security cooperation. Japan's Cabinet Secretariat released a statement saying Akizawa is expected to return to Japan on Sunday after concluding what may be the final working discussions before the G7 summit. Shigeru Ishiba and Donald Trump recently held two phone conversations, raising expectations that the two may announce an agreement during the summit. According to the Asahi Shimbun on Friday, since the initial stages of negotiations in April this year, Japan has proposed a mechanism to the United States under which the 25% auto tariff would be proportionally reduced if Japanese companies increase automobile production in the U.S. and vehicle exports to the U.S. The report said Japan still hopes for complete elimination of U.S. tariffs but also considers a reduced rate as an alternative option.
