TechFlow, May 28 — According to Decrypt, on the same day the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reiterated its demand for El Salvador to freeze government cryptocurrency purchases, the Salvadoran government bought another 8 bitcoins. Data from Arkham Intelligence shows that El Salvador currently holds nearly 6,200 bitcoins, worth over $674 million.
Previously, the IMF reached an agreement with El Salvador on a $1.4 billion loan program that included provisions limiting cryptocurrency holdings. Although the Salvadoran government officially suspended direct bitcoin purchases to comply with the loan terms, the country's Bitcoin Office has continued making small daily purchases, as it falls outside the scope of the regulated fiscal authorities.
