TechFlow, May 28 — According to Cointelegraph, payment technology company Block plans to launch a bitcoin payment feature on its payment processing platform Square. The feature will begin rolling out in the second half of 2025 and is expected to be available to all eligible Square merchants by 2026.
The new functionality will operate on the Lightning Network, allowing merchants to accept bitcoin payments through existing Square hardware. Merchants can choose to either hold bitcoin or convert it instantly into fiat currency. Users will complete transactions simply by scanning a QR code, while Square handles all backend technical processes.
