TechFlow news, May 24 — According to Reuters, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team is promoting its AI chatbot Grok across U.S. federal agencies, raising concerns over privacy violations and conflicts of interest.
DOGE uses a modified version of Grok to analyze government data and generate reports. Reports indicate that DOGE staff encouraged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to use Grok without institutional approval, though DHS denies feeling pressured to adopt any specific tool.
Experts warn that if Grok accesses sensitive government data, it could violate privacy and security regulations. Meanwhile, Musk’s company xAI could gain unfair advantages in federal contracts or misuse government data to improve its AI systems.
DOGE’s access to federal databases containing personal information of millions of Americans has been questioned, as federal rules require strict authorization and oversight for data sharing.
