TechFlow, May 23 — U.S. President Trump posted on social media stating, "The European Union was primarily established to take advantage of the United States in trade and has always been difficult to deal with. Their strong trade barriers, value-added taxes, absurd corporate penalties, non-tariff trade barriers, currency manipulation, unfair and unreasonable lawsuits against American companies, and more have caused the U.S. to run an annual trade deficit with the EU exceeding $250 billion—this figure is entirely unacceptable. Our discussions with them have made no progress! Therefore, I propose imposing a direct 50% tariff on the European Union starting June 1, 2025. No tariffs will apply if products are built or manufactured in the United States."
