TechFlow news, May 15 — According to Decrypt, ride-hailing platform Lyft has confirmed it is using street view map data from Bee Maps, a decentralized mapping platform built on Solana. The collaboration, initiated in 2024, aims to support Lyft's navigation and autonomous driving initiatives.
Bee Maps operates on the infrastructure of Hivemapper, a decentralized map-building network, and runs on a cryptocurrency incentive model. Contributors worldwide can upload street-level imagery via AI-powered dashcams and receive the native token HONEY as rewards.
Bee Maps co-founder and CEO Ariel Seidman stated that traditional maps cannot keep pace with real-world changes, and mobility services and autonomous driving require crowdsourced, real-time, accurate, and open map systems. It is understood that this collaboration is limited to map data licensing and does not involve contributions of data from Lyft drivers or vehicles to the platform.
