TechFlow news, on May 5, according to Cryptopolitan, former U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order late on May 4 to cut public subsidies for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), citing "media bias." NPR CEO Katherine Maher and PBS CEO Paula Kerger immediately announced they would launch a legal challenge against the order, calling it "clearly unlawful."
Public Broadcasting Service CEO Patricia Harrison stated that the White House has no legal jurisdiction over these organizations. NPR said the order violates the First Amendment. Maher emphasized that the funding cuts would most severely impact local stations and their audiences, noting that NPR currently operates newsrooms through 246 member organizations across all U.S. states. Notably, Trump has previously attempted multiple times to reduce public broadcasting budgets and last year labeled NPR a "left-wing disinformation machine."
