TechFlow, April 24 — According to Bloomberg, the European Union has issued its first fines under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), penalizing Apple and Meta with €500 million and €200 million respectively, totaling around €700 million (approximately $798 million). The EU accuses Apple of blocking developers from directing users away from the App Store to purchase services, while Meta's ad-free subscription offering was also ruled non-compliant. Both companies must rectify the violations within 60 days or face further penalties. The decision comes amid strong criticism from the Trump administration toward EU tech regulations, and the fine amounts are milder than expected.
