TechFlow, April 10 — According to Bloomberg, U.S. President Trump has petitioned the Supreme Court to allow him to immediately dismiss senior officials from two independent agencies. The case involves two members of the National Labor Relations Board and the Merit Systems Protection Board. Trump is requesting the Supreme Court to hold a special session in May this year to hear the case.
The case challenges a 90-year-old Supreme Court ruling that allows Congress to protect senior officials from being fired by the president. If Trump prevails, it could set a precedent granting the president the authority to remove heads of independent agencies, including the Federal Reserve Chair.
Trump has previously made multiple statements expressing his desire to dismiss the Federal Reserve Chair.
