TechFlow, April 8 — According to Fortune, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Monday evening the dissolution of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), a unit dedicated to cryptocurrency-related investigations. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated in a four-page memo that this move aligns with President Trump's January executive order on digital assets.
Established in 2021, NCET consisted of prosecutors from the Department of Justice's anti-money laundering and cybercrime divisions, along with attorneys from various regional offices. The team had participated in several major cryptocurrency investigations, including cases involving the crypto mixing protocol Tornado Cash and hacker Avraham Eisenberg.
The memo states that the Department of Justice will now focus enforcement efforts on individuals who harm the interests of digital asset investors, while ceasing enforcement actions against cryptocurrency exchanges, mixing services, and offline wallets.
