TechFlow, April 2 — According to CoinDesk, retail giant 7-Eleven has officially launched testing of South Korea's central bank digital currency (CBDC). Customers who have accounts with one of the seven partner banks—including KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank, and Woori Bank—can pay for goods at 7-Eleven stores by scanning a QR code from their digital wallet. To encourage consumer participation in the trial, 7-Eleven will offer a 10% discount on all products purchased using the digital currency during the testing period.
This move marks a significant advancement in the practical retail application of South Korea's central bank digital currency.
