TechFlow news, March 28 — According to Cointelegraph, Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), said the country's blockchain-based central bank digital currency (CBDC), the digital dirham, is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. The digital currency will help enhance financial stability and combat financial crimes.
It is reported that the digital dirham will be accepted across all payment channels just like physical currency. Balama stated that the digital dirham will foster the development of innovative digital products, services, and new business models, while reducing costs and improving access to international markets.
