TechFlow reported on March 26 that, according to CoinDesk, the final test for Ethereum's upcoming Pectra upgrade was conducted on Wednesday local time on the new Hoodi testnet. This marks the third attempt following two previous unsuccessful tests on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets.
Developers had previously indicated that if this test proceeds smoothly, they plan to activate the Pectra upgrade on Ethereum's mainnet approximately 30 days from Wednesday. Pectra is Ethereum’s largest upgrade in over a year, primarily focused on improving developer experience and usability.
This upgrade will add smart contract capabilities to wallets, enabling wallet software developers to build new convenience features, such as allowing users to pay transaction fees with cryptocurrencies other than ETH.
After the prior test failures, developers specifically created the Hoodi testnet to provide ecosystem participants—especially staking service providers—with a final opportunity to test before the Pectra upgrade launches on Ethereum’s mainnet.
