TechFlow news, March 17 — According to Cointelegraph, U.S. District Judge Douglas Rayes for the District of Arizona ruled on March 13 that the cryptocurrency platform Debiex must pay approximately $2.5 million in restitution, including about $2.26 million in victim refunds and a $221,500 civil penalty.
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) sued Debiex in January 2024, accusing it of operating a "pig-butchering" scam by establishing fake romantic relationships with victims via social media and luring them into investing on its platform. The scheme defrauded five victims of approximately $2.3 million.
