TechFlow News, on March 17, according to The Crypto Basic, a bill has been introduced to Brazil's Congress proposing the legalization of paying salaries and compensation in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
The bill was submitted to Brazil's Congress on March 14 by Luiz Phillipe, former federal deputy of São Paulo, suggesting that workers be allowed to receive up to 50% of their wages and labor benefits in digital assets. The bill does not mandate Bitcoin adoption but provides a legal framework for residents who wish to engage with this emerging technology.
Under the proposed legislation, 50% of wages must continue to be paid in Brazilian reais to maintain the usability of the national currency. Freelancers, foreigners, or self-employed individuals are not subject to this restriction.
Phillipe stated that the bill would further position Brazil as a global digital asset hub, attract foreign tech investment, and grant employees greater autonomy in receiving their earnings. The proposal requires approval by an absolute majority in the Chamber of Deputies' plenary session before being sent to the Federal Senate for final decision.
