TechFlow news — On March 14, according to Sky News, Paul Chowles, an official at the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA), has been charged for allegedly stealing 50 bitcoins during a cybercrime investigation in 2017. At the time, the bitcoins were worth approximately £60,000; based on current market value, they are now worth over £3 million.
The 42-year-old NCA operations officer from Bristol faces 15 charges, including concealing, disguising, or converting criminal property, acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property, and theft.
Malcolm McHaffie, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, confirmed that police in Merseyside have been authorized to charge Chowles, who is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court next month.
