TechFlow reported on March 13 that Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) posted on X, stating that the Wall Street Journal's report about him making a deal to obtain a pardon contains factual errors.
Zhao said he never discussed any transaction regarding Binance US with anyone, and believes the article appears to be an attack on both the president and cryptocurrency, with remnants of the previous administration's "crackdown on crypto" still at play.
Zhao pointed out that more than 20 people have told him the Wall Street Journal asked them whether they could confirm "CZ made some kind of deal for a pardon." He noted that as the only person in U.S. history imprisoned over a single charge under the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), no convicted felon would object to receiving a pardon.
Zhao stated that he has always been committed to advancing cryptocurrency development in the United States and around the world.
