Trump stated: "We can't do this because it's unfair to us. It's very difficult for us to produce tractors here when Japan and other places are depressing their currencies." When asked about Trump's remarks, Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Kato said Tokyo does not have policies directly aimed at weakening the yen. Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday, Kato said Japan has confirmed its fundamental stance on exchange rate policy with the G7 and the United States, including during bilateral meetings with U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent.
