TechFlow reports that the decentralized storage protocol Walrus Protocol has announced its mainnet will launch in March 2025. Active members of the Walrus community and early contributors have already received Walrus Airdrop NFTs indicating their airdrop amounts, which can be viewed via the latest version of Sui Wallet or the Sui Explorer. These soulbound NFTs contain a certain amount of WAL tokens that can be claimed upon the Walrus mainnet launch.
WAL token utilities include paying for storage capacity on Walrus, staking to support network security, and participating in governance. At the time of mainnet launch, WAL will have a maximum supply of 5 billion tokens. Ten percent of the total supply will be allocated directly to the community, with 4% distributed via NFTs and 6% reserved for future distribution.
Walrus is a decentralized storage network capable of storing and transferring large data files from any Web2 or Web3 source, including rich media content, audio files, videos, images, and PDFs. The protocol leverages Sui as its coordination layer, giving it significant advantages in scalability, security, and functionality as a fully programmable data platform.
