TechFlow news, according to Jinshi News, a monthly survey released Thursday by the Japan Center for Economic Research (JCER), a private think tank, shows that most economists surveyed expect the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates again in the second half of this year.
Among the 36 economists surveyed, 30 expect the Bank of Japan to keep interest rates at 0.5% in the first half of 2025, while six anticipate an increase to 0.75%. For the second half of 2025, 28 economists forecast rates rising to 0.75%, six predict they will reach 1%, and only two believe they will remain at 0.5%. The survey results are broadly unchanged from last month, indicating stable market expectations for further rate hikes by the Bank of Japan.
