This figure was below the expectations of all economists surveyed. As U.S. President Donald Trump advances tariff measures, inflation outlook faces significant uncertainties. If tariffs on all major trading partners take effect and lead to price increases, consumer spending could be dampened. The survey showed that the gauge for purchasing big-ticket items declined by 12 percentage points from last month. Moreover, overall confidence declined across all political affiliations. The current conditions index dropped from 74 to 68.7, reaching a three-month low; the expectations index fell to 67.3, the lowest since November 2023. The indicator reflecting personal financial outlook dropped in early February to its lowest level since October 2023. The measure of economic prospects over the next year also declined.
