TechFlow News, according to Protos, the Thai government cut off electricity, internet, and fuel supplies in the Thailand-Myanmar border region at 9 a.m. on February 5 (10 a.m. Beijing time) to crack down on local cryptocurrency scam centers. The operation involves five service providers across three areas: Myawaddy, Payathonzu, and Tachilek.
An investigation revealed that the scam center known as KK Park in Myawaddy is suspected of defrauding victims of $100 million worth of USDT through "pig-butchering" schemes. In 2023, Myanmar authorities rescued 1,200 detained individuals from the area. This power cutoff marks a significant step by Thailand in response to pressure from China, particularly following recent attention over a Chinese actor being scammed in the region.
Thai Prime Minister Pita emphasized that such fraudulent activities severely damage Thailand's national image and require strict measures. While the power disruption may affect normal operations for local residents and hospitals, Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that relevant communities had been notified in advance.
