TechFlow news, January 17 — According to Bitcoin.com News, Sony's Ethereum L2 platform Soneium has been embroiled in its first controversy just days after launching on mainnet. The platform restricted meme coin-related activities to protect intellectual property (IP) and contracts, making it difficult for users to exit their positions.
L2beat researcher Luca Donno successfully bypassed the censorship via an L1 transaction, but this workaround is impractical for average users. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin commented that this highlights the balance between commercial control and user freedom in crypto. Mingshi Song, a representative of Soneium, stated these rules serve as "stepping stones" toward mainstream adoption, aiming to build trust while preserving user sovereignty.
