TechFlow reported on January 6 that Jeju Island, South Korea has announced plans to launch an NFT-based tourism card project in 2025 aimed at attracting millennial and Gen Z travelers. The initiative will integrate with the local blockchain stablecoin Tamna Jeon, offering tourists multiple benefits including travel subsidies, membership privileges, and discounts at tourist attractions.
Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon stated that the region is progressively advancing its digital transformation, using Web3 as a core technology, and plans to apply NFTs across various government service sectors. Although South Korea maintains strict regulations on ICOs and NFTs, Jeju Island—enjoying a special legal framework as a subtropical region—has been continuously exploring crypto-driven growth since 2018. The NFT tourism card project is scheduled to begin a pilot phase in the second half of 2025, initially targeting domestic South Korean tourists, with travel subsidies distributed in local currency.
