TechFlow news — On January 6, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in a new blog post that the company has become confident it knows how to build AGI (artificial general intelligence). He predicted that the first AI agents could enter the workforce in 2025, substantially transforming business output. "We continue to believe that iteratively putting powerful tools into people's hands leads to widely distributed innovation. We're now beginning to shift our focus beyond this, toward true superintelligence," he said.
Reflecting on ChatGPT's two-year journey, Altman noted the product has grown from 100 million weekly active users initially to over 300 million. He emphasized that OpenAI is now directing its efforts toward developing superintelligence, which he believes will dramatically accelerate scientific discovery and innovation, leading to greater societal prosperity.
Regarding the abrupt firing incident last November, Altman described it as a "major governance failure," but added that the experience made him a more thoughtful leader. He particularly thanked Ron Conway and Brian Chesky for their support during the crisis, saying that without them, OpenAI might have fallen apart.
