TechFlow reported on December 19 that, according to Cointelegraph, the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA) has ordered the digital identity project World (formerly Worldcoin) to delete biometric data that does not comply with GDPR standards within one month of the ruling taking effect. Michael Will, chairman of BayLDA, stated that the decision aims to strengthen user rights, and all users who provided iris data will have full rights to data deletion.
The World Foundation has appealed this decision, requesting regulatory authorities to provide judicial clarification on whether its privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) meet the EU's legal definition of anonymization.
