TechFlow news — On December 12, according to Jinshi News, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol delivered another televised address on the morning of December 12 local time, rejecting calls to step down early and denying that declaring martial law constituted insurrection. Following Yoon's speech, criticism from various sectors of South Korean public opinion swiftly emerged.
The main opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, stated that Yoon is mentally unfit, and called on the National Assembly to pass an impeachment motion. After Yoon’s address, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the ruling party, also remarked that Yoon showed no sign of remorse and was merely attempting to rationalize his actions.
Commentators have suggested that Yoon may have anticipated he cannot prevent the impeachment motion from passing in parliament and is now trying to influence the final ruling by the Constitutional Court, meaning political turmoil in South Korea is likely to persist.
