TechFlow news, December 2 — According to Coinmarketcap data, on December 2 the market cap of XRP reached $137.8 billion, surpassing USDT (market cap $134.2 billion) and rising to third place in the cryptocurrency market capitalization ranking.
FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett posted on X: "XRP's market cap has just surpassed USDT, making it the third-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, returning to the level seen before the SEC/Ripple lawsuit.
Prior to Hinman's speech in June 2018, the SEC had once considered BTC and ETH as non-securities due to being 'sufficiently decentralized,' and at that time, XRP was actually the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, right after ETH. After the speech, Ethereum's market cap exceeded XRP in November 2018.
The so-called 'Hinman emails' uncovered during the Ripple case revealed that some officials within the SEC disagreed with the content of the speech, expressing concerns that it might impact the regulatory status of other cryptocurrencies. Six years later, the regulatory status remains unclear."
