TechFlow news, November 13 — According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum scaling solution Linea announced the formation of the Linea Association during Devcon in Bangkok, Thailand. The Linea Association is a Swiss nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Linea's development and governance. It will support Linea’s technology, grow the Linea ecosystem, and drive its decentralization roadmap. The association plans to launch the Linea token in the first quarter of 2025, enabling governance by token holders. Token holders will have governance rights over certain activities of the association, which will manage Linea’s core intellectual property and funds supporting its mission.
Linea is a Layer-2 zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) rollup solution developed by ConsenSys. Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys, said the establishment of the Linea Association marks a significant step toward achieving true decentralization for the network, preventing excessive control by any single entity.
Nicolas Liochon, founder of Linea, emphasized that decentralization lies at the heart of Linea’s vision. He stated that Linea must be publicly owned and governed by everyone as a public good, just like Ethereum Layer-1. Lubin added that Layer-2 projects overly controlled by companies or a small group of participants will struggle to succeed or remain properly aligned with the Ethereum platform.
