TechFlow reported on November 12, citing Bloomberg, that according to sources, UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves will announce a digital gilts pilot program in her speech at the Mansion House in the City of London this Thursday. The new Labour government plans to leverage blockchain technology to "tokenize" government debt over the next two years, aiming to enhance bond trading efficiency and reduce costs.
It is understood that the UK government is advancing a record-breaking borrowing program worth £297 billion (approximately $382 billion), with expected high sales volumes in the coming years. Sources indicated that parliamentary legislation may be required for the government to continue rolling out blockchain-based bond sales.
