TechFlow news, October 31 — According to Bloomberg, a federal judge in New York, Lewis A. Kaplan, ruled that former FTX chief engineer Nishad Singh will avoid prison. As a key witness, Singh's testimony helped prosecutors successfully convict FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), who is currently serving a 25-year sentence. This marks the most lenient ruling so far for any former FTX executive.
In comparison, former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison was sentenced to two years in prison, while former FTX digital markets CEO Ryan Salame received a seven-and-a-half-year sentence for involvement in a campaign finance scheme. The court acknowledged that Singh only learned about Alameda Research’s misuse of customer funds two months before the collapse. Singh expressed deep remorse during the trial for his involvement in the fraud, and prosecutors praised his "exemplary cooperation" throughout the investigation.
