TechFlow news, October 30 — According to Decrypt, U.S. President Joe Biden thanked Nigerian President Bola Tinubu during a phone call on Tuesday for playing a key role in securing the release of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance employee.
Gambaryan, an American citizen residing in Atlanta, had been detained in Nigeria for over eight months. A Nigerian court has now dropped charges against him and allowed his release. One of the reasons cited for dropping the charges was the deterioration of Gambaryan's health during detention.
During the call, Biden also expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s willingness to cooperate on law enforcement matters, including the establishment of a new cryptocurrency task force. Meanwhile, the United States and Nigeria have announced the formation of a bilateral liaison group focused on combating crypto-related crimes.
