TechFlow news, on October 24, according to Protos, Austria's largest fraud case was recently sentenced, with five individuals involved in a $16 million pyramid scheme jailed. The case involved 40,000 victims, and the defrauded funds were primarily used for real estate and cryptocurrency investments.
It is reported that 11 suspects from Austria, Croatia, and Italy underwent a 60-day trial at the Klagenfurt Regional Court. Among the defendants was the 24-year-old stepson of an unnamed celebrity. They were accused of promising investors huge profits if they invested in real estate and traded various cryptocurrencies, including EXW tokens.
However, the funds were ultimately spent on luxury items such as high-end cars, private jets, upscale club expenses, and shark tanks. It was reported that the stepson alone spent 100,000 euros (approximately $108,000) on prostitution. Police stated that the group employed methods such as transporting cash in plastic bags, storing money in shoeboxes, and exchanging funds via encrypted platforms, making it extremely difficult to trace the flow of money.
