TechFlow news, October 16 — According to Decrypt, a recent survey by Universidad Francisco Gavidia in San Salvador, El Salvador, reveals that despite widespread public support for President Nayib Bukele's administration, his Bitcoin policy has not gained broad adoption. The results show that only 7.5% of respondents reported using cryptocurrency for transactions, while 92% admitted they do not use it.
In 2021, under the leadership of "millennial" President Bukele, El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender. However, only 1.3% of respondents believe Bitcoin should be the country’s primary direction moving forward. Bukele acknowledged in an interview with TIME magazine that Bitcoin adoption has fallen short of expectations.
Nonetheless, the survey found that 58% of respondents believe the nation is heading in the right direction and expressed strong support for President Bukele, largely due to his government's achievements in improving national security. However, his hardline crime crackdown policies have drawn criticism from human rights organizations.
The survey covered 1,224 Salvadoran citizens aged 18 and above, addressing various aspects including economy and security.
