TechFlow news, according to Cointelegraph, Fidelity recently submitted a document to the Maine Attorney General indicating that 77,099 of its customers were affected by a data breach, representing only a small fraction of its total customer base of 51.5 million.
Fidelity stated that between August 17 and 19, an attacker accessed customer names and other personally identifiable information through two recently created customer accounts. Fidelity first detected the breach on August 19 and immediately terminated the unauthorized access.
The company said it has worked with "external security experts" to resolve the issue and emphasized that no third party gained access to any Fidelity accounts.
Fidelity has committed to providing affected users with two years of free credit monitoring and identity restoration services to help detect any anomalous activity that might impact their personal financial status.
