TechFlow News, October 7 — According to Politico, if Donald Trump wins re-election as U.S. president, Robinhood’s chief legal officer Dan Gallagher could emerge as a leading candidate for chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Multiple former senior regulators, lobbyists, and securities lawyers have expressed this view. Gallagher previously served as an SEC commissioner and is known for his affability and political acumen.
Gallagher has voiced clear disagreements with the SEC’s current policies. He stated that had he been chair over the past few years, he would have already established tailored rules for crypto exchanges and brokers, offering “at least a basic path forward with a registration system.” Nevertheless, Gallagher maintains that enabling legislation would still be necessary.
Besides Gallagher, Wall Street speculation includes other potential candidates for SEC chair:
-
Chris Giancarlo, former chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, widely known by the nickname “CryptoDad”
-
Robert Stebbins, former SEC general counsel and current partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP
-
Hester Peirce, current Republican commissioner at the SEC
