TechFlow reports, on October 7, on-chain detective ZachXBT disclosed on X that he successfully assisted an elderly American victim in recovering $275,000 stolen in a scam. The incident originated in April 2024, when the victim fell prey to an Indian phone scam ring impersonating Coinbase customer support, resulting in the theft of most of their life savings.
ZachXBT stated that the recovered funds have been seized by law enforcement and will be returned to the victim. During his investigation, ZachXBT discovered the scam group's activities extended far beyond this single case. He noted: "I found that this group has stolen over $5 million from other victims. These funds were moved through centralized exchanges from Ethereum and Bitcoin to the Tron network, then transferred as stablecoins to over-the-counter (OTC) dealers."
