TechFlow news, October 5 — According to CoinDesk, a new documentary from Home Box Office (HBO) will premiere next week, claiming to reveal the true identity of Bitcoin's anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. The documentary is directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Cullen Hoback, known for exposing the figure behind the QAnon conspiracy theory popularized on 4chan during the 2016 U.S. election. Bettors on prediction market Polymarket believe the documentary is likely to name Len Sassaman as Satoshi.
Sassaman was a cryptography expert who died in 2011 due to depression. He is considered a potential candidate for Satoshi Nakamoto for several reasons: having published multiple academic papers in cryptography, demonstrating a strong ideological commitment to privacy and decentralization, and his death occurring around the same time that Satoshi ceased posting on the Bitcointalk forum. However, another contract on Polymarket indicates investors assign only an 11% probability to Satoshi's identity being confirmed within 2024.
